Thomas E. “Tom” Patterson


Thomas E. “Tom” Patterson, 80 of Richwood, died Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.  He was born September 23, 1933 in Essex to the late Ralph Patterson and Cloa Mae (Jenkins) Cramer.  He was also preceded in death by his grandparents who helped raise him, Charles Edward and Clara Amanda Patterson.

On September 27, 1956 he married the former Dorothy L. Haines and she died August 28, 2007 after more than fifty years of marriage.  

A faithful Christian, he was a member of the Claibourne Advent Church.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in Korea.  He was retired from GTE in Marion, where he had given over forty years of service in management as well as being a professional engineer, a title he was very proud to have earned.  Tom was a devoted husband, having spent twelve years as the primary caregiver for his wife, Dorothy following her stroke.  They both enjoyed taking trips to Renfro Valley, Kentucky.  He was a member of the Richwood Civic Center.  He enjoyed his grandchildren, and loved attending their baseball games.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas Steven (Nancy) Patterson, Butler, Indiana; Stuart E. (Connie) Patterson, Marysville; a daughter, Barb (George) Scheiderer, Marysville; a step-son, Mike Kinikin, Fort Wayne, Indiana; a step-daughter, Donna Henderson, Stuart, Florida; four grandchildren, Seth Patterson, Gerhard, Gage and Griffin Scheiderer; three step grandchildren, Tammy Shawver, Roberta Thornsberry and Tom Hark; sister-in-law, Joanne Lindley, East Liberty; special cousins, Ruth Martin and Martha McNamee; family members, Brenda (Todd) Gibson, Richwood; Paul “Doc” (GeorgeAnn) Cramer, Richwood.  He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Judy Schemmel.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 3, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Danny Grose officiating.  A veteran service will conducted by the Richwood Area Veterans.  Burial will follow in Price Cemetery.  Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM at the funeral home in Richwood.
