Harley V. “Bing” Howard

Harley V. “Bing” Howard, 79 of Marion Manor nursing home, went home to the Lord on Friday, February 28, 2014.  He was born December 20, 1934 in Rix Mills, Ohio to the late Harry V. and Esther (Cooper) Howard, and grew up in Chandlersville.  “Bing,” as he was known to his friends, was a twelve-year veteran of the Naval Reserve, enlisting when he was 17.  He worked for his father’s construction company for many years before joining the Ohio Ferro Alloy plant, where he worked for 20 years.  After the plant closed, he worked for the West Muskingum school district, and later Higgins Lumber.

Bing enjoyed puzzles, cards, dominoes, chocolate and Yahtzee.  His proudest achievement was marrying Roseann Stiles in 1955.  Together they raised three sons, and were deeply devoted to each other for 53 years, until Roseann’s passing in 2008.  Their reunion in Heaven is the answer to his prayers.

He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Kristie), John (Lisa), and Joe (Val); his brothers, Thurman (Dorothy), Allen (Becky), James (Jeanette), David (Roberta), and Robert (Gail), as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was a member of Rolling Plains United Methodist Church in Zanesville, although his spiritual advisor for the last five years was Rev. Ed Fugate, of LaRue United Methodist Church.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Marion Manor nursing home, who became a family to Bing.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church, 3000 Dresden Road, Zanesville, OH  43701.  A graveside service for immediate family will be held at a later time.  The family is being assisted by Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, LaRue.

Memorial gifts may be made to Marion Manor, 195 Executive Drive, Marion, OH  43302.
