Charles Roy “Bill” Headington


Charles Roy “Bill” Headington, 85 of Richwood, died Monday morning, June 23, 2014 at the Marion Manor Nursing Home.  He was born February 27, 1929 on the Headington Farm in Byhalia to the late Charles and Omah (Tallman) Headington.

On August 30, 1969 he married the former Rita Lou Rubeck and she survives.

He attended the Richwood Church of Christ and was a 1947 graduate of Byhalia High School.  He worked as a self-employed brick and stone mason, carpenter, woodcraftsman and gun maker.

A veteran of the U. S. Army Signal Corps, he served in Korea during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952, achieving the rank of Corporal.  Bill was a life member of VFW Post 870 in Richwood.  He was proud to have killed a mountain goat in 1961 in Seward, Alaska, which is listed in the Boone and Crockett Club Records of North America.

Bill and Rita traveled in Europe and the Orient, visiting 26 countries and pursuing their interests in history and architecture.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Velda “Peggy” Allison Stanford, Rio Rancho, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ross Headington, four sisters, Raola Floyd, Catherine Allen Bush, Betty Shawd and Lois Schafer.

A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Richwood Church of Christ, 29063 Sivey Road, Richwood, OH  43344 from 9:30 to 11:30, where a Celebration of Life will take place at 11:30 AM.  Personal friend, Scot Gorsuch will officiate and burial will follow in the Byhalia Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Richwood Area Veterans.
