Virginia Greenwood


Virginia Roux Greenwood, age 96, of rural New Bloomington, died Sunday July 13, 2014 at 11:37 AM at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born on November 19, 1917 in Marion County to the late Harold and Lois Susan Caroline (Dickason) Roux.  On December 23, 1939 she married Donald R. Greenwood and he died December 15, 2010.

Virginia is survived by one son; Harold Douglas (Judi) Greenwood, Grandsons; Thomas Isaac Greenwood and Andrew Scott Greenwood. Nieces and Nephews; Robyn Jones; Lois and Bill Lust; Dick Roux; Becky, Tom, and Janet Appelfeller; Harry, Joyce, Sue, Andy, Sam, Frank, and Jon Appelfeller. Sisters; Martha Eloise Roux Lust and June Roux Appelfeller.

She was preceded in death by one son Don Scott Greenwood D.D.S., Siblings; Richard D. Roux; Jane Roux Appelfeller; and Rayda Roux Jones.

Virginia graduated from LaRue High School in 1935; from Bliss Business College in 1936; Ohio State University in 1938; Ohio Northern University in 1959; and Ohio State University in 1972 with a M.A. in Education.

She was employed at: Farm Security Administration (1938-41); Army Air Force, Indianapolis, Indiana (1941-45); Watrous-Andrews Insurance Agency (1946-56); Caledonia High School (1958-59); Ridgedale High School (1959-75); Tri-Rivers Career Center as acting Supervisor (1975-1986)—Post retirement, Virginia opened and owned the Woodchuck, craft supply shop in LaRue (1994-2006).

Virginia was affiliated with; Epworth United Methodist Church as a Sunday School teacher; LaRue United Methodist Church; The J.A.M. Club; American Legion Auxiliary unit 101, served as President for 10 years; Green Thumb Garden Club,past president; ETA Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, past president; LaRue Alumni Committee; Ohio Vocational Assn; Ohio and Marion County Retired Teachers Assn; and Board of Directors of LASAP of LaRue. In 2012 she was the first recipient in Ohio of the Edward’s SAPIEN Transcatheter heart valve and participated in the McConnell Heart Hospital national study.

The special persons of Virginia’s life; daughter-in-law Judi Greenwood; Darlene S. Greenwood and her dearest friend, Nina Crabtree.

The Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home of LaRue, have assisted the family in final arrangements for Virginia. There will be no calling hours. Interment will  be in the family plot at the LaRue Cemetery. The Rev. Tim Pasma will officiate at the interment. The family will host a private memorial service at a later date to honor her devotion to them and her long productive life.
