Dennis Blue


Dennis Eugene Blue, 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 24, 2015 at The Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born to the late John W. and Bonnie (Ryan) Blue on February 2, 1940 in LaRue, Ohio. He was a 1959 graduate of Marion Catholic High School. Dennis married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Nell Strebar, on January 30, 1961 in Sparta, NC.

Dennis was a life-long member of St. Mary Church in Marion where he served as a volunteer at St Vincent de Paul. He retired from BF Goodrich in Green Camp. He was past President of URW Local 241. He was a blacksmith, harness horse trainer, and a member of the Richwood Matinee Club and the USTA.

Dennis and Nell shared a beautiful and love-filled life together. Dennis was a devoted family man and his favorite past time and greatest joy was enjoying, spending time with, and avidly supporting his daughters and their spouses, nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren at home, their schools, and anywhere there was a ball game involving any of them. He was an extremely loving, generous, and loyal husband, father, and grandfather.

He was a true-Blue Democrat and a lifelong fan of The Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He enjoyed playing Euchre at the fairgrounds.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nell, and his greatest accomplishments, his daughters: Kim (Brent) Chapman of Richwood, Brenda (Lari) Blankenship of Prospect, Jane (Matt) Miller of Marysville, and Sondra (Scott) Schneller of Radnor. Nine grandchildren: Brittany (Heith) Chanley, Keenan (Kristin) Chapman, Chloe (Josh) Graham, Talia (Michael) McKinniss, Lily and Macy Miller, and Elise, Aspen, and Cierra Schneller. Four great-grandchildren: Mckenna Chapman, Luke Graham, and Jackson and Reiss McKinniss. Sole remaining aunt, Betty (Forrest) Tucker; sister-in-law, Carol (Walter) Wehenkel; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Trixie.

Calling hours will be Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 2 to 5 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 29, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marion with Rev. Thomas Buffer officiating. Burial will follow at the Price Cemetery.
