Helen Eloise Phipps


Helen Eloise Phipps, 94 of York Center, died Wednesday afternoon November 11, 2015 at the Milcrest Nursing Home.  She was born April 15, 1921 at home in York Township to the late Howard and Lelah Dale (Ralston) McMahan.  She was also predeceased by her loving husband, Victor Bernard Phipps of 58 years, one granddaughter, Sheila Blumenschein and one brother, Abner McMahan.

Helen graduated from York Center High School in 1939. She and Victor farmed in Union County all their lives. Helen gave her heart unconditionally to her family and her church, the Somersville Friends Church, where she devoted 74 years of her life.  She served as organist, pianist, coached the children to sing, say their speeches and mentored them to become caring and sharing adults. Helen also had passions for farming, gardening and mowing her yard with the infamous Cub Cadet.

Surviving are her five fabulous children: John Wilbur Phipps, Marysville; Lelah “Susie” (Bill) Rausch, Raymond; Victor Junior (Ruby) Phipps, Green Camp; Kay Phipps Strausbaugh, Columbus; and Judy Arlene (Gary) Carter, Cable.  She is also survived by nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 14, 2105 at 12:00 noon at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood and burial will follow in the York Cemetery. Pastor Roger Williams will officiate.  Friends may call two hours prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.
