Charles F. Corbett


Charles F. Corbett 83 of Richwood, died Wednesday morning, December 30, 2015 at his home.

He was born March 16, 1932 in Summersville, West Virginia to the late George and Fosie (Neff) Corbett.  He was also predeceased by his wife, Virginia L. “Sue” (Ball) whom he married on April 18, 1959 in Oak Hill.  She died May 14, 2011.  Also preceding him in death were brothers and sisters, Russell, Clyde, Ira and Henry Corbett, Elsie Drennen, Ethel Hart, Madeline Roark and Louise Underwood.

He was a graduate of Oak Hill High School, he was a talented athlete and played football there.  He stayed in contact with his friends and teammates over the years.  A veteran of the U. S. Air Force, he served overseas during the Korean Conflict.  He worked for Lennox in Columbus in the Shipping and Receiving Dept. for 27 years.  After retiring he worked as a guard at Honda.  He was a member of the VFW Post 870 in Richwood.  He was a devoted husband and father and took pride in taking care of his yard.

Surviving are his children, Charles Dean (Sally) Corbett, Bellevue and Phyllis (Sam) Speyer, Garner, North Carolina; grandchildren, Allison P. (Bill) Evert, Samantha K. Corbett, and Madison B. Speyer; and a great-grandson, Axel Charles Evert.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 12:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service.  Pastor Joe Rhea will officiate and military honors will be conducted by the Richwood Area Veterans immediately following the service.  Burial will take place at York Cemetery at a later date.
