Howard Paul Belt


Howard Paul Belt, 66 of Marion, formerly of Prospect and Richwood, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Marion General Hospital.

He was born March 1, 1950 in Marion to the late Julius Ellsworth and Edith Frances (Ellinwood) Belt.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Terry Lockwood.

He was a 1969 graduate of North Union High School.  He worked as a line supplier at Whirlpool for 38 years, retiring in 2007.  A veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, he was a charter member of VFW Post 870, and was also an endowed member of Mt. Carmel #303 F&AM.  Paul was an avid fisherman and his favorite spot was at Lake St. Mary’s.  He also enjoyed hunting and going to car shows.  Paul loved his family, especially his grandchildren.  He was very handy, able to fix most things and had been a locksmith and a gunsmith when he lived in Prospect.

He is survived by three sons, Chad (Brandy) Belt; Josh (Laurie) Belt and Matt Belt, all of Marion; a daughter, Michelle (Tim Line) Belt, Bradford; a brother, Jerry (Dianne) Belt, Richwood; eight grandchildren; and his former wives, Deborah Fout, New Bloomington; and Patricia (Doug) Brown, Rosewood.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Joe Rhea officiating.  Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery.  Military honors will be conducted by the Richwood Area Veterans.  Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home in Richwood where a Masonic Service will take place at 7:00 PM.
