Jeffrey L. "Griff" Griffith

Jeffrey L. "Griff" Griffith, 62 of Richwood died Sunday, January 15, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving and devoted family following a battle with cancer.

He was born September 4, 1954 in Kenton to William L. and Phyllis I. (Roberts) Griffith.

Griff was a 1972 graduate of North Union High School. He was a gifted athlete who earned all-conference honors in football and was all state in baseball. He worked for 42 years for Ohio Edison as a lineman, a job he cherished, and made many friendships throughout the years traveling all across the United States with his work.

Griff was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many sports throughout his life.  Whatever he did, he did it well, whether it was fast pitch softball, golf or bowling. He was also a true outdoorsman.  He loved fishing and hunting and truly cared about the outdoors.

He was a member of Knights of Pythias, Mt. Carmel Lodge #303 F&AM, AASR Valley of Columbus, Rush Creek United Methodist Church, Pheasants Forever, the former “Sweet 16” golf group, Richwood Golf League and the Marion Country Club.

Family time was very important to Griff, and the regular Thursday family dinners were never missed.  He rarely missed an opportunity to attend one of his kids and grandkids events. Living in the country was also very special to Griff; it was his little “heaven on earth”.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen (Parish) Shields, whom he married August 23, 2014 at the Rush Creek (formerly Essex) United Methodist Church; his mother, Phyllis Griffith, Richwood; his children, Cyndi (Tom) Ross, Richwood; Chrisy (Mike) Visconti, Cardington; B. J. (Jenna) Griffith, Richwood; Will and Warren Shields, Richwood; a sister, Deb Lewis, Richwood; grandchildren, Brennan Griffith, Luke, Leo and Colin Visconti, Austin Schindewolf and Wyatt Griffith; his former wife, Phyllis S. (Mark) Roberts, Marysville; and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Richwood Church of Christ with Pastors Joe Rhea and Mathew Craig officiating.  Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at the church, where a Masonic Service will be held at 8:00 PM.  Burial in Claibourne Cemetery will take place at a later date.
