Phillip L. Winslow


Phillip L. Winslow, 86, of LaRue joined his beloved wife Darlene in Heaven on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 to live together, forever, with the Lord. He was born September 16, 1931 in North Lewisburg to the late Lawrence W. and Hazel A. (Burroughs) Winslow Johnson.

In June of 1952, he married Gloria Darlene Hayden and they celebrated 30 years together before Darlene passed away in 1982.  He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Harley Davidson Winslow.

Phillip attended school in Marion, dropping out in 1948 to join the Army. He served two tours in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1952.  Phillip then joined the Army National Guard, serving 38 years for a total of 42 years 2 months and 5 days of service for his country. He was employed by the Federal Government for 38 years before retiring on his 60th birthday, September 16, 1991.

Phillip attended the LaRue United Methodist Church where he took great pride in ringing the church bell. He was a member of the LaRue Lodge #463 F&AM. He loved the village of LaRue and served it well, as a Montgomery Township trustee, volunteer fireman, and as a caring citizen.

Phillip will be missed by his four sons, Phillip L. Winslow, Jr., Steven C. Winslow,
Jeffrey R. (Judy) Winslow, all of LaRue, and Joseph S. Winslow of Bellefontaine; six grandchildren, Rashena, Stacie, Zack, Kara, Kelly and Joey; and eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Evelyn Peters of Mansfield, Ethel McNally of Tennessee, Marlene Roddy of Florida and Janice Harper of Marion; one Aunt, Pearle Collinson of Marysville.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue where a Masonic service will be conducted by the LaRue Lodge #463 at 4:00 PM. Funeral services will be Monday, December 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home where there will be calling hours one hour prior to the service. Pastor Mike Raypholtz will officiate and military honors will be provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council.  Burial will follow in LaRue Cemetery.
