Claude L. Tidd Jr.


Claude L. Tidd Jr., 84 of Richwood died unexpectedly Monday, February 11, 2019 at Memorial Hospital of Union County.

He was born May 9, 1934 in Marion to the late Claude L. and Flora Belle (Kutz) Tidd Sr.  He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Tidd and a sister, Pauline Geer.

On March 10, 1967 he married the former Sandra Perry in Michigan and she survives in Richwood.

He was a member of the Claibourne United Methodist Church.  He was the service manager for Mathews-Kennedy Ford in Marion for over 40 years where he earned several service awards from the Ford Motor Company.  He then worked for North Union Local School District as its Transportation Supervisor for 11 years before retirement.  Claude’s true passion was in law enforcement and between 1968 and 1972 he was a deputy for Marion County Sheriff Max Ross, earning the titles of Lieutenant and Chief Deputy.  In 1970 he graduated from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy.

He loved gardening and his favorite time of year was spring.  Claude was able to fix just about anything and enjoyed tinkering with cars and building computers.  He loved his puppies and enjoyed story-telling, especially law enforcement stories.  The most important thing by far to Claude was his family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Gregory (Ruth) McCloud, Key West, Florida; Dan Tidd, Prospect; a daughter, Penni Jolliff, Pompano Beach, Florida; a sister Linda Hooper, Marion; two brothers, Jack Tidd and George Tidd, both of Marion; grandchildren, Keshia (Jonathon) Todhunter, Amber Klaiber, Meagan (Kyle) Horn, Ian McCloud, Evan McCloud; great-grandchildren, Reese Todhunter, Lily Horn, Karson Horn.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Kevin Orr officiating.  Private family burial will take place in Claibourne Cemetery.  Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
