Willis Beard


Willis Beard, 82, of Richwood, died peacefully Saturday January 18, 2020 at the Memorial Gables in Marysville.

He was born at the homeplace near Richwood on August 3, 1937 to the late Lawrence and Mary Leah (Beard) Beard, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Opal Elizabeth (McComas) they were married April 6, 1957 in York Center and she died February 18, 2006, Willie took loving care of Opal for more than 36 years due to her ongoing illness. Also preceding him in death was three sisters, three brothers, two half-brothers and four half-sisters.

Willie had worked at the former Tecumseh Products in Marion. He was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ in Delaware, where he was instrumental with helping the church when a new roof was needed. Willie enjoyed playing pool with friends and going to horse races, he really loved going to the Little Brown Jug. It also could be said that he enjoyed “flirting” with the ladies in his life.
But his true joy in his later years was his time spent at the Memorial Hospital in Marysville. He loved volunteering there and was named “Volunteer of the Year” in 2017. The hospital actually made a new award for Willie, “Happy Talker Award”, to symbolize what he meant to all there.

Surviving is his sister: Etta Mae Hitt of Richwood and her family, special friends: Lloyd Phipps, Jim Payne, Paul and Pam Reynolds and Carla Reinhard, all who meant so much to him.

Graveside services will be held Thursday January 23, 2020 at 11:00 am at the York Cemetery, Paul Reynolds will officiate.
