Ralph W. Ridge

Ralph W. Ridge, 92 of Richwood died Sunday evening, March 8, 2020 at Bluebird Retirement Community in Marysville.

He was born May 6, 1927 in Ottawa County to the late Hugh James and Tenah (Emans) Ridge. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry, six brothers and two sisters.

On February 1, 1948 he married the former Helen Hall in the Essex United Methodist Church, and she survives in Richwood.

He was a member of the Claibourne United Methodist Church. Throughout his life as a farmer, Ralph served on various volunteer boards and elected committees. For many years he volunteered with Memorial Meals, picking meals up at Memorial Hospital and delivering them to shut-ins throughout the county, Helen always by his side to help navigate. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard and bingo. His true passion in life was gardening and he loved to grow things and give them away to his family and friends. Ralph was a real lover of desserts and asked he be buried with a fork, because as he said, “The best is yet to come.”

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas (Desiree) Ridge, Oak Park, California; a daughter, Janet Sue (Richard) Walker, Waldorf, Maryland; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
