Thomas A. Wooten


Thomas A. Wooten, 78 of Prospect died Monday, December 7, 2020 at Marion General Hospital.

He was born July 19, 1942 in Lawrence County, Kentucky to the late Wayne and Flora (Baldwin) Wooten. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Spaulding.

On June 18, 1966 he married the former Betty Lou Lester in Marion County and she survives in Prospect.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he worked as a Tool and Die Maker at Marion Power Shovel for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Stoney Ridge United Baptist Church in Carey. Tom loved country music, playing guitar and singing Blue Grass for many years. His true joy was his family and he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. When he was able, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with his son, Wes.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Laura Lee (William) Wixtead, Marion; Amanda Gail Wooten, Prospect; a son, Wesley Thomas (Jennifer) Wooten, Marion; ten grandchildren, Adam (Libby) Wixtead, Brooke (Justin) Owens, Kayla (Michael) Forry, Lindsay Wooten, Makenzie Parker, Macy Wooten, Elaina Wooten, Silas Wooten, Madison Payne and Jackson Payne; eight great-grandchildren, Austin and Aubrey Wixtead, Lexia Payton and Justin Jr. Owens, Kenton and Karlena Forry, Jayden Ulery; a sister, Peggy (Mike) Plumley, Marion; and a brother-in-law, Bill Spaulding, Caledonia.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Price Cemetery with Pat Gilliland officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America.
