Thomas Logan “T.L.” Parker


Thomas Logan “T.L.” Parker, 91, of Marion, formerly of LaRue, passed away peacefully Saturday January 16, 2021 at the Marion General Hospital.

He was born August 31, 1929 in LaRue to the late George Washington and Pearl (McGuire) Parker, he was also preceded in death by three sisters: Doris Chambers, Mertie Marie Schlaudroff and Betty Lou Graven and one nephew.

Tom left LaRue when he turned 18, to join the Air Force. He proudly served our country for 22 years.

It was while stationed at Homestead Air Force Base, near Miami, Florida, that he and a fellow serviceman friend went on a blind date with a couple of sisters. It was then that he met his soul mate and future wife of 65 years, Willene Parker.

They had two children: Steve (Teresa) Parker of Marion and Cathy Stayman of Columbia, South Carolina.
The Parker family traveled across the country from one military base to another: Colorado, Virginia, Maine, Alaska and the Netherlands. Tom retired in 1969 and moved back to his childhood home in LaRue.

Tom had two main passions. One was his church. It was first at the LaRue United Methodist Church and after a move to Marion in the early 1990's, it was the Marion Christian Center.
His other passion was his family. In addition to his wife and two children, he is survived by three grandchildren: Eric Stayman, Nicholas (Hope) Stayman and Stephanie Parker and one great grandson: Kirkland Stayman
Four nephews and four nieces who lovingly called him “Unkie”.

Private services will be held Thursday January 21, 2021 at 12 noon at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue.
Pastor Perry Payne will officiate, private burial will follow in the LaRue Cemetery. There will be Military Honors given by the Marion Area United Veterans Council.
