Richard Dean


Richard Dean, 96 of Kenton, died peacefully Tuesday morning February 23, 2021 at his home.

He was born in a log cabin near Meeker to the late Howard and Grace (Stiverson) Dean. He was also preceded in death by a son: Howard Hugh Dean, siblings: Jack (Donna) Dean, Virginia Dean (James) Wiseman and Doris (Foy) Shoewalter.

Dick was a 1942 graduate of the Meeker High School. He had previously worked at Whirlpool, was part owner of the former Schwaderer Farm Supply in LaRue, sold Nachurs fertilizer, sold Cargill seed and had done custom combining for area farmers. But the constant work in his life was farming and building homes, he had built 4 of his own homes.

Dick was a member of the Silver Creek Methodist Church near Kenton. He was a member of the Moose Lodge at Indian Lake; he also had a passion for watching high school sports.

Surviving is his wife: Marcia Ann (Carey) Dean, they were married August 28, 1978 in Marion, also surviving are his children: Dixie Kay (Bill) Akers of LaRue, Douglas Richard (Rebecca) Dean of Richwood, Dale Alan Dean of LaRue and Vicki Ann (Gene) Elkins of Kenton

Grandchildren: Wayne Akers, Shane Akers, Shannon (Rita Miley) Akers, Kandi Akers, Danny and Chris Mustaine, Maryann (Josh) Holtschulte, Sarah (Josh) Scott, Micah Dean, Christina (Christopher) Jadlos, Travis (Jade) Elkins, Kelsie, Linsey and Chandler Elkins

Great grandchildren: Justin (Chelsea) Akers, Kody Akers, Jason Akers, Arika (Kyle) Brown, Xavier and Livana Holtshulte, Zoe and Isaac Scott, Chloe, Brennan and Cohen Dean, Raina Jadlos, Dawson and Canyon Elkins

Great great grandchildren: Levi, Mia, Harley and Rhett Akers, Mallorie, Emalynn and Karter Brown

Brother: Howard (Susan) Dean of Waldo

Dick’s first wife and the mother of his children: Mary K. (James) Hughes and her husband Dale of LaRue

Public Graveside services will be held Saturday February 27, 2021 at 11:00 am at the LaRue Cemetery, Pastor Mark Bishop will officiate. Private calling hours will be held.

Memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital
