Jesse L. Conrad

Jesse L. Conrad, 84 life-long resident of Magnetic Springs, died peacefully Saturday morning April 10, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 12, 1936 in Magnetic Springs to the late Dr. Jesse M. and Leona H. (Rogers) Conrad.

Jesse graduated Valedictorian from the Magnetic Springs High School in 1954. He then graduated from Bowling Green State University. Following graduation, he started the firm of Jesse L Conrad Accounting. In the late 1970’s he hired a young man named Mark Leibold who would later become a partner in the business now named  Conrad, Leibold, Woerner & Co. in Marysville. In true Jesse form, he continued to work with Mark during tax season right up to early 2020,when his health began to decline.

He served his community in many fashions, here are some of his memberships: North Union Board of Education 1971-78, Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees 1974-87, Union County Board of Education 1990-91, Mayor of Magnetic Springs 1996-97, M.S. United Methodist Church Trustee 1988-present, C.I.C. of Union County Trustee 1987-2010, Huntington National Bank City Office Director 1987-2009, Westminster Financial Companies Inc, Director 1998-present, Chairman-Memorial Hospital Development Council 2000-13, Union County Hospital Assn. The Conrad family was a big part of the hey-day of Magnetic Springs, Jesse’s Grand dad and Dad were both owners of bathhouses and operated the former Conrad Hotel, their name is synonymous with Magnetic Springs.

His church, the Magnetic Spring United Methodist Church, was a very big part of his life, he loved his church and church family. One thing that was dear to Jesse was singing in the church men’s group “The Kingsman”.

Jesse was known to enjoy a good time; he cherished his friendships (there are many). Jesse always appreciated the mentoring he received from area businessmen as he developed his  business and tried very diligently to pass along his business knowledge and connections to others in the community. He was a true Mentor to many!

He truly loved to travel, having been all across the United States. Jesse and Charlene enjoyed trips to Australia , Africa, Fiji, and New Zealand to name a few. In addition he enjoyed going to all of his Grandchildren’s sporting events. As a young man he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting as well. Jesse, Charlene and kids loved camping, spending many vacations camping with friends.

He will be remembered for his faith, love of his family and community and his willingness to give back, (also maybe for being a little ornery).

On November 21, 1959 he married Charlene F. (Blue) and she survives, also surviving are their children: Brad (Jeanne) Conrad of Powell, Carl (Ronda) Conrad of Richwood, Kristi (Joel) Smith of Magnetic Springs and Robert Conrad of Richwood.
