Mary Gay (Schambs) Mowery


Mary Gay (Schambs) Mowery, 85 of Richwood, died peacefully Friday July 16, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph G Mowery, a son Guy C. Mowery, a brother Edward Schambs IV, sister-in-law Lucille Schambs and a very dear friend James K. Thompson.

She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on January 14th, 1936, the daughter of the late Edward Andrew Schambs Jr. and Gay Josephine (Cramer) Schambs.

She was a graduate of Magnetic Springs High School, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Richwood.

She retired from Ohio Edison Company after 28 years of service. After retirement she worked for a period of time, as a part time teller at the Richwood Banking Company. She served as clerk for the Village of Richwood from the year 2000 until resigning in 2004. She also served on the Village Board of Zoning Appeals.

She was a member of the former "Better Mothers Club" of the Ohio Child Conservation League and served on the board of the North Union Athletic Complex (NUAC) for several years. She was also a member of the Richwood Civic Center.

She enjoyed traveling, having traveled to six countries in Europe, and many western and southwestern states several times. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, going to casinos, embroidering and crocheting, but mostly her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Joseph Mowery and his wife Alison of Delaware and Lisa (Mowery) Martin and her husband Mike of Richwood.
Grandchildren: Natalie Campbell and her husband Samuel; Melissa Gray and her husband Michael; Adam Mowery and his wife Sarah; Laura Mowery; Kelly Dobyns and her husband Jeremy and Philip Mowery. Mary Gay Mowery was the proud Great Grandma for 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Esther Anderson and Anita Davis as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday July 21, 2021 at 7 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood, Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate. Friends may call two hours prior to the service beginning at 5 pm at the funeral home in Richwood.
Private burial will take place in the Claibourne Cemetery.
