Harold Ivan Moats


Harold Ivan Moats, 91 of Marysville, formerly of Richwood, died Thursday August 12, 2021 at the O.S.U. Hospital.

He was born April 25, 1930 in Johnstown to the late Gail B. and Beulah B. (Parsons) Moats.

Harold was a 1948 graduate of the Johnstown High School; he then served our country in the United States Air Force, also serving overseas in Korea.

His career spanned that of a Banker to an Accountant. He had worked for the Johnstown Bank, the Pickerington Bank and the Richwood Bank. He then finished his working career as owner/operator of the former Moats Bookkeeping, he retired in 2000.

Harold loved following sports, baseball (The Reds), college (The Ohio State Buckeyes) and golf were his favorites. He had a passion for gambling, he could be found on a very regular basis playing poker, euchre or on trips to Laughlin or Las Vegas. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the Red Barn and playing golf with friends.
It wouldn’t be complete without saying that Harold enjoyed telling a story or two.

On December 30, 1970 in Las Vegas, he married Peggy (Whims) and she died June 16, 2015.

Surviving are his children: Stephanie Stephens (Eric), Johnstown; Stuart Moats (Kerry), Johnstown; Stepdaughters: Rita Morrow of Delaware and Nita White of Cincinnati. Grandchildren: Brian Stephens (Christina), Madison Russell (Evan); Sarah Priest (Jonathan); Rachel Moats; Brittany Marino (Dominic), Lauren Warner (Adam), Brandon White (Erin).
5 Great-grandchildren.
Siblings: Tim Moats (Kathleen) and Audrey McKenzie, both of Johnstown

Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 17, 2021 at 7:00 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood, Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate. There will Military Honors given by the Richwood Area Veterans. Friends may call two hours prior to the service beginning at 5 pm at the funeral home in Richwood.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday August 18, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Violet Township Cemetery, Pickerington.
