Patricia Ann Baker

Patricia Ann Baker, known by her friends as Pat, passed away at the age of 87 at the Memorial Gables on Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Pat was born the only child of Dwight and Mildred Mae (Archer) Fields on April 16, 1934. Mildred shared her love of music with her daughter. They played many duets in area churches and events with Mildred on the piano and Pat on the organ.  Pat also toured for the local group, the King’s Harvest Singers, sharing her musical talent.

Pat married Lowell Baker and established their home on the family farm in Byhalia, on December 22, 1961 where they raised two sons, Robert and Alan. She selflessly assumed the role of caregiver when her husband suffered a cerebral aneurysm in 1978 and when her son, Robert, became afflicted with schizophrenia in 1983.  Robert and Lowell preceded her in death in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

With the help of Steve Goodwin and family, she maintained the 230-acre farm for many years. The farm raised many cattle, hogs, sheep, chickens, and rabbits at various times.  She loved all animals great and small but was particularly fond of her cats. In her later years, she could frequently be seen mowing the lawn and ditches surrounding the farm. Her grandchildren especially enjoyed riding their grandparent’s golf cart on the mowed property.

Outside the farm, Pat was bookkeeper for a local lumberyard, Harris, Jolliff & Michel, for many years and then for Kale Marketing in Richwood until she retired.  In addition, she served as organist and treasurer for the Byhalia United Methodist Church and the board of directors of Union Rural Electric for many years. Pat was a current member of York United Methodist Church and played the organ there.

Pat was also quite fond of sweets, especially chocolate as her cupboards always included an ample supply of Snickers, Peanut M&M’s, and peanut butter cups.

In 2017, Pat moved to the Memorial Gables in Marysville, where she was well cared for, loved and respected.  She was frequently seen with her stuffed yellow cat, “Rascal”, while at Memorial Gables.  Her family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Memorial Gables and Loving Care Hospice for the exceptional care Pat received while a resident.

Pat treasured her dear family friends and neighbors, Steve and Karen Goodwin, for their unmeasurable support, friendship and kindness spanning many decades.

Pat will be greatly missed by her son, Alan (Michele) Baker of Dublin and her grandchildren, Allison (Mike) Lampasone, and Madison (Kyle Petko) Baker. Pat was also quite fond of Michele’s children, Allison (Matt) Poindexter and Adam Klusacek.

Funeral Services will be held Friday September 10, 2021 at 11:00 am at the York Center United Methodist Church, Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate. Burial will follow in the Byhalia Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 5-7 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood.
