Nancy Jo Shaffer


Nancy Jo Shaffer, 80 of Prospect, died Monday August 29, 2022 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital following a short illness.

She was born December 3, 1941 in Marion to the late Murray “Doc” and Josephine M. (Barks) Wainfor.

Nancy was a lifelong active member of the Prospect United Methodist Church, where she had served as chairperson of the Care Team. She had worked at the former Shaffer’s IGA in Prospect for 22 yrs. She then worked at the BMV in Marion before retiring as a receptionist at a pediatric office in Powell.

For Nancy, family was her heart, she was especially proud of her grandchildren.
Her hobbies included, sewing, crafts, puzzles, and adult coloring.
Nancy had a lifelong love of horses, she even owned several in her lifetime. She loved all animals and most recently it was her companion cat, Dakota.

Family camping with her parents, sister, children and grandchildren at Indian Lake were special times for her.
Nancy loved going on hunting trips out west with her husband Rex and friends. She especially liked being able to see the countryside and meet new people along the way.

On November 19, 1988 at the Prospect United Methodist Church, she married Rex Shaffer and he survives. Also surviving are her children, Beth (John) Boehm of Radnor, Debbie Tudor of Mansfield, Brian (Kim) Retterer of Richwood, Brent (Randi) Retterer of Prospect, Ron (Cheryl) Shaffer of Mt. Gilead and Randy Shaffer of Marion
Grandchildren: Jeremy Boehm, Annie Boehm, Dustin Retterer, Joshua Retterer Rachael Johnson, Colton Retterer, Cassandra Converse, Jerrod Retterer, Christopher Tudor, Devin Shaffer.
Great Grandchildren: Ella Retterer, Sidney Shaffer, Shelby Shaffer, Owen Retterer, and Colby Converse
Sister, Connie Crist of Delaware

Funeral services will be held Saturday September 3, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Prospect United Methodist Church, Pastor Gene Phelps will officiate. Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5-7 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood.
