Paul Edward “Doc” Cramer


Paul Edward “Doc” Cramer, after a long truly blessed life, passed away at his Richwood home with his loving family on January 4, 2023 at the age of 96.

Paul was born into a farm family on May 8, 1926, the son of the late Arby and Marguerite (Reynolds) Cramer.

A 1944 graduate of Richwood High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served as an airplane engine mechanic until his discharge in November 1946. For the next few years, Doc worked in Richwood as a mechanic and operated a Standard Oil gas station and garage for many years. He also farmed during many of those years. After retirement he resumed his passion for Cushman Motor Scooters, doing many restorations and traveling the country with his family to events. Paul was a proud veteran who had been a decades-long member of the American Legion. He was a member of Richwood First United Methodist Church. He was a resident of Richwood for most of his life and loved his hometown.

Doc was a true family man who would always be ready to make a repair, attend an event, observe activities with great pride and love. He lived a long, happy life, but will be missed by many.

Paul married Kathleen “Kate” Shields on January 20, 1944 and they were married 62 years until her death in 2006. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Gibson.
He is survived by his sons, Rex (Cheri) Cramer, Mt. Gilead; Jim (Michelle) Cramer, Plain City; nine grandchildren, Jaimee, Adrienne, Jackson, Wade, Joshua, Sunny, Kathleen, Alexis, Sophia; and 14 great-grandchildren, Paul Edward, Andi, Eli, Celia, Graham, Griffin, Gavin, Rex, Piper, Juliet,
Finn, Sydney, Lincoln, and Scarlett. He is also survived by George Ann Charles, after his wife, Kate passed, Paul and George Ann became reacquainted and they had a loving relationship beyond words for the last 15 years.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 12:00 noon at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Joseph Rhea officiating. Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home in Richwood. There will be Military Honors conducted by the Richwood Area Veterans.
