James L. “Jim” Rauscher


James L. “Jim” Rauscher, 88 of LaRue, died peacefully Monday evening February 27, 2023 at his home.

He was born February 18, 1935 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Elizabeth (Henchik) and Latty Rauscher.

Jim graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a BS degree. Upon graduation, the college hired him to teach zoology.

His teaching career was interrupted when his unit of the Wisconsin Army Reserve, was called up to participate in the Berlin Crisis.

Upon returning to Milwaukee, he took a position as a research biologist for Lakeside Laboratories, a subsidiary of Colgate-Palmolive.

During this period he met and married JoAnn (Lapacz) Rauscher, who survives. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage.

Next was a move to Ohio, where Jim pursued a master degree from the Xavier University in Cincinnati. He was hired by the Marion Correctional Institution. He left after seven years as head of the Psychology Dept.

In the early 1970’s, Jim and his family moved to LaRue so he was able to pursue a passion for breeding and selling Chinchillas. Thus, Rauscher Chinchillas, LLC.

He continued to work as a counselor for Marion County Children’s Services. Jim established a private hypnosis practice in his home. Lastly, he had a term as mayor of LaRue.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Erika (Scott) Curtis of Chillicothe and Stephen Rauscher of New Bloomington.

Friends may call Thursday March 2, 2023 from 5-7 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue. Private burial will take place in the LaRue Cemetery.
