Harry L. "Bud" Appelfeller Jr.


Harry L. "Bud' Appelfeller Jr., 80 of Bucyrus, died Thursday March 16, 2023 at the Bucyrus Hospital.

He was born August 23,1942 in Marion to the late Harry L. and Leona Jane (Roux) Appelfeller Sr. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Tom Rarick.

Harry’s working career was with the Railroad as a General Foreman. He had worked for Erie-Conrail and the Metropolitan Transit Authority for over 40 years. He had served our country in the National Guard during Vietnam. When he was younger, he had belonged to the Drum & Bugle Corps, playing the cymbals.

He loved his Cleveland baseball, the Indians/Guardians. Harry enjoyed fishing and working in his vegetable garden; he was known for canning sauerkraut. He kept his mind sharp by constantly working on crossword puzzles and listening to his favorite radio personality, Rush Limbaugh, “god rest his soul”. Harry cherished his relationships with his railroad and National Guard friends. He also had a soft spot for cats.
Harry loved spending time with his grandkids and family when he was able.

Surviving is his wife Jan (Young) Appelfeller of Bucyrus, his children, Amy (William) Workley of Carroll, Christian Appelfeller of Dublin,
Michael (Jennifer) Appelfeller of Lancaster and Harry L. Appelfeller III of Bucyrus
Grandchildren, Ashley (Mullins) Voils, Zackary Appelfeller, Mitchell Workley, Allison Appelfeller,
Nicholas Appelfeller, Aaron Appelfeller, Claire Appelfeller, Elijah Appelfeller, Elizabeth Appelfeller and Brody Appelfeller
Siblings, Joyce Rarick of Bucyrus, Andy (Sherril) Appelfeller of Marion, Samuel (Linda) Appelfeller of Mt. Victory, Linda Sue (Sonny) Meloy of Mt. Victory, Frank Appelfeller of Mason and Jon Appelfeller of West Mansfield.
5 step children, 5 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren

There will be a time of Gathering for Family and Friends Friday March 24, 2023 from 5-7 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue. Private family services will be held at a later date at the LaRue Cemetery with Pastor Joseph Rhea officiating.
