Barbara Ann Brake

Barbara Ann Brake, 76 of Richwood, passed away Wednesday May 10, 2023 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital, surrounded by her husband and family, following a 6 month battle with cancer.

Barbara was born February 16, 1947 in Columbus, the first child born to Carl S. and Esther Ann (Burnside) Bugg, both proceeding her in death.

She was a member of the last class to graduate from Richwood High School in 1965.

In April of 1973, she was introduced to Michael Brake, and they were married on October 27, 1973 at the Richwood First United Methodist Church, where she had taught youth Sunday School classes.

She held secretarial positions at Dr. Cowgill’s Chiropractic office, and Dennison in Marysville before earning her most valued role as a stay-at-home mother and farm wife. Later in life, Barb went back to work at the Ohio Reformatory for Women as a dental assistant and remained in the field of dentistry until her retirement from Richwood Family Dental. She and Mike had been members at the Rush Creek UMC.

She enjoyed feeding people and was an excellent cook. She occasionally tackled sewing projects and would save the day mending clothing for her family.

Barb cherished her outings with ‘the girls’, as the staff from Richwood Family Dental would arrange lunch gatherings. She was a snowbird, and loved traveling south, where she soaked up the sun and caught a few spring training games.

Barb and Mike share one daughter, Michelle (Greg) Evans of Richwood. Barb’s heart doubled in size when her granddaughter, Morgan was born. In more recent years, you would find Barb traveling the state and country to enjoy Morgan’s livestock and horse show pursuits.
Barb is also survived by a brother, Roger (Terri) Bugg of Richwood, nephews and their wives, great nephews and nieces.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday May 16, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Richwood First United Methodist Church. Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate. Burial will follow in the York Cemetery.
