Clarence Don Greer


Clarence Don Greer, 91 of LaRue, died Friday November 3, 2023 at the O.S.U. Hospital in Columbus.

He was born May 17, 1932 at his grandparent's home in rural western Marion County to his parents Hugh Monroe and Ethel Gladys (Eberhart) Greer. He was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Forbis, a granddaughter, Catherine Woods and sons-in-law, Dr. Jon Woods and Gregory Naseman.

Clarence was reared in the Methodist faith and was a life-long resident of Marion County. He had attended the LaRue and Marion Schools.

In his youth, he was employed as a newspaper boy, delivering the Marion Star. When he was in high school, he worked at the Goerlich Greenhouse and then at Columbus Cut Flower Exchange. He had also worked at Peerless Dry Cleaners, Hemmerly's Flowers and Tecumseh Products. He then retired after 33 years from the Whirlpool Corporation. Clarence occupied his spring months operating his greenhouse at his home in LaRue.

He was an extrovert, he enjoyed being useful and a part of his community. He was a past member of the Kiwanis International. He served the LaRue Village as councilman, mayor and on the Board of Public Affairs. He was an active member of the LaRue Community Alliance and the “GOMOL”, which meets at the village barber shop.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 72 years, Sally (Harley) Greer, their children, Donna Woods of Columbus, Pamela (John) Kozich of Columbus, Christine Naseman of Louisville, Kentucky and Timothy (Tracy) Greer of Westerville
Grandchildren, Jon (Katrina) Woods, Victoria (Josh) Hindmarsh, Ilse Kozich, Alec (Melanie) Kozich, Andrea (David) Blair, Philip (Katherine) Naseman, Hannah (Nicholas) Young, Grace Welch and Eliza Greer, Step Grandson, John Kozich
Great grandchildren, Reese Woods, Sophia Kozich, Justice Hale, Juliet Lawrence, Jayla Richardson, Vivian Blair, Skylar Naseman, McKenna, Creighton and Declan Welch.

Funeral services celebrating Clarence’s life will be held Tuesday November 14, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue. Pastor Deb Berry will officiate. Burial will follow in the LaRue Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home in LaRue.

In keeping with Clarence's commitment to LaRue, memorial gifts may be made to the LaRue Community Alliance and/or either of the churches in LaRue; LaRue Baptist Church and LaRue United Methodist Church.
