Raymond L. Jones


Raymond L. Jones, 88 of Richwood, left this world November 21, 2023 at the Marion General Hospital, to be reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife Janice.

He was born October 7, 1935 in LaRue to the late Vernal and Wave (Carey) Jones. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Janice (Pennington) Jones, they were married February 18, 1962 and she died March 18, 2022 after 60 years of marriage.

Raymond loved growing up on a farm and being around the animals. He especially enjoyed raising cattle. Even though he had sold his own, he was so glad when his great nephew Willie kept his cattle at the farm for the summer, he loved checking up on them.

After graduating from the LaRue High School in 1954, he entered the United States Army. He served our country as an armored tank operator in Germany. He was the first in his area to prove the tanks were amphibious or could “go swimming” as he called it.

Raymond met Janice in Baltimore where he was in the Army Reserves. They both enjoyed the farm life. He worked at the former Milo & Berry in Mount Victory and then retired from Parrott’s in Richwood after 35 years. Raymond was a talented mechanic and was known for his work on hay balers and welding skills.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Jones of Richwood, a brother, Walter Jones of LaRue and in-laws, George (Charlotte) Pennington and Ronnie (Carol) Penington. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, he shared a very special bond with his nephew Dale Jones and great nephew William Jones.
He is also survived by the family of his heart whom he considered his grandson and great grandchildren, Chuckie (Jenn) Ehret and their daughters, Kalynne, Kennedy and Karlee.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday November 29, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue. Pastor Jim Gardner will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, near LaRue, where there will be Military Honors provided by the Vietnam Veterans of America #1095. Friends may call Tuesday from 4-6 pm at the funeral home in LaRue.
