Dollie F. Montgomery


Dollie F. Montgomery, 98 formerly of LaRue, passed away December 25, 2023 at Willow Brook Christian Home in Columbus in the presence of her loving sons.

She was born on January 11, 1925 in Hancock County to Delbert and Lottie Copeland Boyles. Her family moved to LaRue where she first met her future husband Francis (Bud) Montgomery. Dollie and her parents then moved to Marion, where she graduated from Marion Harding High School.

Dollie and Bud were married on July 11, 1943, in LaRue. They lived in the DeCliff area until the death of Bud in 1984.

Dollie was a member of the LaRue United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School. She was also active in many social organizations, among them Rebekahs, Happie Tyme Club and the Weakender’s Camping Club, of which she was a charter member. Dollie was a Cub and Boy Scout leader. She was also very active in Eastern Star being a 50-year member and Past Matron of the Mary Lenox Chapter # 98 O.E.S. and once serving as Grand Representative from Ohio to Wyoming.

In addition to helping with work on the family farm, she also worked as a postal clerk in New Bloomington for 17 years.

Dollie enjoyed reading novels about the Amish, collecting angels and was very interested in family genealogy. She was proud to be a direct descendant of Mayflower passengers John Alden and Priscilla Mullins.

Dollie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis; and brothers David and John Boyles.

Surviving are her sons Dennis (Barbara) Montgomery of Canal Winchester and Rob Montgomery of Westerville, grandsons Doug (Tracy) Montgomery and Andy (Laura) Montgomery, great grandchildren Max, Ella, Charlie, and Sam as well as 10 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 3, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue. Pastor Deb Berry and Greg Rice will officiate. Burial will follow in the LaRue Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service beginning at 12 noon at the funeral home in LaRue.
