Cynthia (Cindy) Lynn Gilfillan

Cynthia (Cindy) Lynn Gilfillan, 64, died Thursday morning January 11, 2024, surrounded by her sister, Judy, her loving canine nephew, Lance, and her hospice nurse, Mary Dale.

Cindy was born in Chillicothe, February 12, 1959, to the late Dwane and Martha (Curtis) Gilfillan.

She is survived by a sister, Judy (Johnny) Regula of Ostrander, canine nephew, Lance, niece, Angi (Chad) Moon, great niece, Rhyanna (Ryan) Auer and children, Aeryn and Gene, great niece, Hayley (Elvin) Sawyer and child, Miles and Mason on the way, great nephews, Connor Wagner, Jacob Orzechowski and Zachary Orzechowski.  She was preceded in death by nephew, Jeff Orzechowski.

Cindy graduated from Jackson Center High School in 1977. While at JC, she played volleyball and basketball, of which she still has one or two standing records for her basketball skills. After graduation she worked at Holloway Sportswear.

In early 1980, she was in a horrific car accident which left her permanently disabled. For the next 33 years she was cared for by her parents and family. In 2013 she began living at The Springfield Masonic Community. While living with her parents and then at the Masonic Home, you could see her laying out in the sun. She always would wave with a huge smile on her face and say HI to all who spotted her. Funny thing is she didn't know who she was speaking to as she couldn't see without her glasses on. She loved sports, especially her beloved Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame. She absolutely loved her canine nephew, Lance. Lance would always visit her and the other residents in the nursing home.

Cindy ALWAYS had a smile on her face whether she was in pain or not. She loved life as it came. She loved all her friends at the nursing home and touched many, many lives with her strength and fortitude. She very seldom ever complained. If she asked for anything she would say "I'm sorry" followed by "Thank You". Cindy's hobby was collecting owls. The nursing home along with Affinity surprised Cindy with a visit in her room from a live screech owl in September, 2023.  She was speechless. Cindy enjoyed going to church every Sunday, concerts, fireworks, family outings, traveling, and being the maid of honor at her sister's wedding. Cindy never met a stranger.

We would like to thank all the visitors she has had over the ten years being at the nursing home. She received so many cards and letters which really brightened up her spirits. She was never depressed or sad about her life. She had several "special" friends that helped to make her life full of laughter. Special thanks to Matthew and cousin, Debbie.
Cindy and Judy would like to thank from the bottom of their hearts the care and love received from the Masonic Community and The Affinity Hospice Group.

Services will be held at The Springfield Masonic Community chapel on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm. Address is: 2655 W. National Rd, York Rite Building, Springfield, Ohio 45504.
