Helen Elizabeth Hickman


Helen Elizabeth Hickman, 89, of Prospect died Wednesday morning, May 4, 2005 at Marion Manor. She was born May 31, 1916 in Radnor, OH to George Owen Thomas and Margaret Maude Griffith Thomas, both deceased.

She was a lifelong member of Prospect Baptist Church, where she was the organist for 37 years, retiring in December, 1991. The 1934 graduate of Prospect High School was a hairdresser in Prospect, where she had her own shop.

On August 3, 1935 she married Donald Albert Hickman, who died May, 1983.

She is survived by 3 sons, Timothy K. (Carrol) Hickman, Eaton, OH; John W. (Norma) Hickman, Prospect; James R. (Cindi) Hickman, University Place, Washington; 1 sister Mary Jane (Leonard) Ahmay, Marion; and 1 brother, Robert (Wilma June) Thomas, Boulder, Colorado, sister-in-law, Jane Thomas, 10 grandchildren, David M. Hickman, John R. Hickman, Andrew T. Hickman, Deborah L. Schmidt, Tony Hickman, Joshua Hickman, Andrew Hickman, Thomas Hickman, Amanda Hickman and Elizabeth Hickman, and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Thomas Hickman and a brother, Harold Thomas.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in the Prospect Baptist Church, with Pastors Bill Snyder and Harold Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Gehm-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect on Friday from 6 to 9 PM, and on Saturday 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Prospect Baptist Church or Quality of Life Hospice at Marion General Hospital.
